The 1st Five Years, N.Y.U. in Ghana, The Commons
On view through 2/17-2/27
Opening Reception (5-7pm) Wednesday 2/17
Curated by Katy Hamer and Lyle Ashton Harris
Location:
NYU’s Barney Building, 34 Stuyvesant Street, NY

This exhibit will encompass the artistic resonance of NYU’s Study Abroad program that has existed in Accra, Ghana for the past five years. Both Steinhardt and Tisch offer courses and this exhibition will feature painting, drawing, installation, and photography. There will also be a special screening of films from Tisch students of Awam Ampka, Academic Director of NYU Ghana and NYU Africa House. This opportunity enables students to live in Ghana, take classes at NYU Facilities and other local Universities, as well as travel both throughout Ghana and to neighboring African countries.

I have collaborated with Lyle Ashton Harris in selecting a group of students who will participate in the exhibit showing work that was either created during his/her experience in Ghana or art that has been made since the experience.

I hope you will join us in revisiting this rich land through the eyes and experiences of others translated into a visual, universal language; art.
