Katy Diamond Hamer, ‘Untitled”, Mixed media on paper, 2010
Visual AIDS is an organization that raises both awareness and funding regarding the artworld and HIV. Postcards from the Edge is an annual exhibition which has been going on since 1998. The event is hosted by a different gallery each year and this coming January 2011 it will be held at CRG Gallery in Chelsea. I have participated previously, and after taking a few years off I decided once again to submit a piece. As the name so clearly states, each work is 4″ x 6″, or the size of a standard postcard. The art is sold during a salon style auction and the identification of the artist is hidden giving each buyer the chance to purchase a piece for $85, much lower than the actual value. The money raised from sold works, benefits the organization and the visual community. My submission, “Andrea” shown above, is watercolor, ink, and acrylic on fabriano watercolor paper. It was made in the style of my moustache series, particularly for this event.

Postcards from the Edge: on view @ CRG Gallery, January 7th-9th, 2011.

Hope to see you there!
