It’s that time of year again, when commercials for “Girls Gone Wild” would have infiltrated late-night television advertisements and college students plan where they will travel for spring break. Beyond the bikinis, Bros and frozen margaritas, New York has its own SPRINGBREAK Art Show and for all of those based here, we only have to travel as far as the Skylight at Moynihan Station, located directly behind Penn Station. That’s right, a spring break without palm trees but also easily accessible. It’s just that, the accessibility wherein SPRINGBREAK sets itself apart from other art fairs. Founding directors Ambre Kelly and Andrew Gori created an art fair in 2009 —first with their friends— which has since grown to include an open call submission process. Each successive year it has increased in size and the venue moved from a school in Nolita to their current location which is large enough to fit the expansion. Over one hundred curators and 800 artists were featured in various rooms in the former station. On opening night, the effect was dizzying as artists, friends of artists, the occasional celebrity artist (Jim Jarmusch) and occasional celebrity photographer (Bill Cunningham) joined forces filling the massive hallways and eventually leading to the venue to reach capacity and turn some visitors away. If this isn’t what art is meant to be about, then I don’t know what is. We sent our editorial intern and NYU college student, Jongho Lee to the fair with the assignment of choosing his TOP TEN PICKS. His selection is below. How did you spend your SPRINGBREAK?  ~Katy Diamond Hamer

SPRINGBREAK Art Show was open to the public March 2 – 7, 2016 | Daily Hours noon to 8PM and closes on the 7th at 6PM.
