Sunday afternoon, I braved the Blizzard to go to the New Museum! I wanted to see both The Last Newspaper and Free before venturing to Berlin. Both shows are fantastic and creating a dialogue between documentation and technology.
The Last Newspaper was co-curated by Richard Flood and Benjamin Godsill who have put together a concise group show that includes some well known/familiars name such as Dash Snow and others such as Judith Bernstein who I was unfamiliar with but contributes a strong piece.
Free, curated by Lauren Cornell, deals with our current sense of immediacy and perception as filtered through the Internet. The exhibit is really strong and I found myself both reading and watching the projected works along with the still pieces that have an interactive element. Subjectively, thus topic is of interest to me and follows my own new work/painted series that I’ve been working on since July.
