Top Picks: ZONA MACO ARTE CONTEMPORANEO, MEXICO CITY

Zona Maco Arte Contemporaneo, the art fair of Mexico celebrated its 10th year and was on view in Mexico City, April 10th-14th, 2013. The fair was divided into five sections including the Main Section, New Proposals, ZONA MACO SUR, Design and Modern Art, the last being the newest addition to the fair. Artist Jason Gringler who is based in Brooklyn, NY had work in the fair with Galerie Stefan Roepke, Cologne. I asked him to document a selection of top picks and the results in the form of photo reportage are below in no particular order. Zona Maco Arte Contemporaneo is an international fair however as with most art fairs, the majority of participants hail from a particular geographic range, this case being South and Latin America. Conceptually the power of the art fair exists within a context that allows viewers to visit or discover a specific gallery program or artist without having to go beyond the determined venue.
