After contributing Top Picks for Zona Maco Arte Contemporaneo, Mexico City, this past April, artist Jason Gringler has returned for Art Basel Miami Beach, 2013. His choices, while varied in media, have a connective or aesthetic tissue in that each work has a linear quality and focal point, whether 3-Dimensional or 2-Dimensional, painting, photograph or sculpture. Within each of these artworks, one might find a drawing, intended or not. From the Constantin Brancusi at New York based Paul Kasmin to Ken Okiishi at Reena Spaulings, also in New York, Gringler’s selections all fit within a Post-Modern dialogue, organically gestured as they are structured.
Founded in Basel, Switzerland in 1970, Art Basel is now annually held in Miami, Basel and most recently, Hong Kong. This year Art Basel Miami Beach, was held from December 5th-8th with a Press and VIP Preview held on December 4th, 2013. Last year alone, over 50,000 visitors attended the fair from all over the world. The fair is divided into sectors and this year they included the Main Galleries, Nova (works created within the last three years), Positions (new talent), Edition (prints/multiples/editions), Kabinett (selected curated space within particular booth), Public (outdoor), Film (organized by David Gryn, Director of Londonʼs Artprojx) and Magazines. ~KDH
