Did you go to Independent New York? Not the un-fair that is held at the same time as The Armory Show, this incarnation materialized in November and was on view the 6th through the 8th, with an exhibition portion remaining on view until the 15th. There are no two ways about it, Independent New York, is, as far as an art fair goes, always refreshing. Conceived by Elizabeth Dee and Darren Flook along with creative advisor Matthew Higgs and director Laura Mitterrand, Independent Projects coincides with the many art auctions that are occurring at Christies and Sotheby’s New York. Strategically positioned, each gallery chose one artist or project per booth and although the layout is always somewhat of an open format, the singular artist booths allow for a quicker read and is much easier to intellectually absorb.
